We develop the high achievers Suzanne Cory values most

Named after the renowned scientist, it’s no surprise that Suzanne Cory High School’s curriculum places a premium on STEM subjects and extracurriculars. The school affords endless opportunities to excel, which its ambitious students gladly seize, setting them on the path to grow into aspirational and renowned innovators in whatever field they choose.

Suzanne Cory admits approximately 200 Year 9 students every year, with a handful of offers made to Year 10 and 11 students if vacancies open up.

Our founder and lead educator, Chris Chau, spent over a decade as Suzanne Cory’s Head of Maths. Under his guidance, our students are perfectly primed to meet and exceed the school’s demanding academic standards.

Eligibility criteria for Suzanne Cory High School

Students applying for Suzanne Cory must meet the school’s three eligibility criteria. You’ll see that a student’s existing grades are not on the list, as they are only occasionally taken into consideration.

Citizenship and residency

Suzanne Cory applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand. Students with temporary visas may apply if they have an exemption from paying international student fees.

Year level and extracurriculars

Suzanne Cory reserves seats for new students in Year 9 but only offers entry to Years 10 and 11 based on vacancies. The school values applicants with a diverse range of extracurricular experiences.

Entrance exam

Prospective Year 9 students must sit for the entrance exam in Year 8. Students applying for Year 10 and 11 vacancies must sit the exam in the year preceding their enrolment start date.

What’s included in Suzanne Cory High School selective entry exams

Students must sit for one of two selective entry exams, depending on whether they aim for the primary Year 9 or the secondary enrolment at the higher year levels.

Year 9 entry exam

The entry exam is the ACER test, which is run by the Department of Education. In-person exams will be held at locations across Victoria, and remote exams are offered to regional and overseas students.

Year 9 entry exam components

Suzanne Cory’s Year 9 exam tests children on their written comprehension, mathematical reasoning, verbal and quantitative general abilities, and creative and rhetorical writing skills.

Year 10/11 entry exam

Students applying for Year 10 or 11 placement will be sitting the Edutest exam, which an independent organisation runs on behalf of Suzanne Cory. Remote exams will be available.

Year 10/11 entry exam components

The Edutest exam is formatted similarly to the ACER exam. Students will likely also be asked to sit for an interview with Suzanne Cory’s principal to justify an offer for their limited places.

Suzanne Cory High School’s enrolment process and dates

As challenging as the exams are, the overall enrolment process is straightforward. The dates, which will vary slightly from year to year, remain largely consistent.

Students can apply for Year 9 selective exams with ACER directly. For the Year 10 and 11 exams, students must contact Suzanne Cory for the Edutest application.
